Boersma Funeral Home76 year old, James ‘Jim’ Ahrendt, of Kingman, Indiana, formerly of DeMotte, passed away on November 17, 2025, at home with his family around him.
On March 7, 1949, Jim was born to Ralph and Tillie (Borys) Ahrendt, in Harvey, Illinois. He graduated from Hammond Tech High School, class of 1967. Jim married the love of his life, Patricia ‘Pat’ Dinga on September 5, 1969, by eloping to St. Joseph, Michigan. He worked as a millwright, with the steelworkers union Local 1011. Jim loved cars, working on cars, drag racing, and his Harley Davidsons. He was a sports enthusiast, specifically any team from Chicago, and the Indianapolis Colts. Jim enjoyed fishing, boating, movies, his dogs, and saving turtles. Jim’s greatest joy in life was getting to spend time with his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife: Pat, children: Leslie (David) Slayton, James ‘Jay’ Ahrendt II, Tricia (Duke) Gall, Mary (Brian) Fruits, one granddaughter, 9 grandsons, and 3 great-grandsons.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 334 15th St. SW, DeMotte, IN 46310. A prayer service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Joe Van Schepen officiating. Interment will follow at the Cemetery of the Resurrection.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
