James “Jim” Nelson Hutchens, 75, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024. He was born June 7, 1948. Mr. Hutchens was a member of Faith Community Baptist Church. He loved playing bluegrass music, camping, fishing, and spending time with his beloved beagle, Penny. He was preceded by his parents, R. L. Steelman and Betty Groce Steelman. Surviving are his wife, Martha Murphy Hutchens; children Juli (William) Miller, James (Janet) Hutchens; grandchildren Cameron (Abigail) Hutchens, Kacie (Cameron) Sloan, Madelyn Hutchens, Catie Miller, Charlie Miller; great grandchild Gideon Hutchens; sister Shelby (Gene) Howard; brothers Jerry (Hazelene) Hutchens, Robert Lee (Beth) Steelman; one niece, and several nephews. He was retired from J & J Auto Repair, where he was the owner for more than 25 years. He built both a business and a local hang out. The shop friends were always welcome. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Faith Community Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at the church by Pastor Brian Poindexter with burial to follow. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff at Forsyth Medical Center Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for the loving care given to Mr. Hutchens. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Hutchens family.
