James Joseph Schlaikowski, fondly known as Jim Shly, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on March 7, 1940, in Wisconsin, Jim was a man whose laughter and love knew no bounds. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, a family charmed by his humor, and a community that found in him a truly remarkable friend and colleague.
Jim's journey through life was a shared one, with his beloved wife, Carol, at his side for 52 remarkable years. Together, they navigated the waters of life, celebrating triumphs and facing challenges with unwavering partnership. His twin sister, Jane (Gerald) Corbett, shared not only his features but also an unbreakable bond that only twins can understand. Jim also leaves behind a cherished sister-in-law, Marilyn (Rodger) Dumar, who added to the richness of his family life as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
For 30 years, Jim poured his dedication and work ethic into his career at Pabst Brewery. His commitment was not only to his job but also to the community of colleagues and friends he built there. His involvement in various associations connected to his work demonstrated his belief in the power of unity and cooperation. Jim's colleagues will remember him not just for his reliability and expertise but also for the warmth and humor he brought to the workplace every day.
Jim's passions painted a picture of a man who embraced life with both hands. His love for horses was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and his appreciation for the beauty of these noble creatures. Riding motorcycles was another pursuit that gave Jim a profound sense of freedom and excitement. He was a man who loved the sun, always seeking that perfect tan, and his affection for his dogs was a testament to his nurturing and loving nature.
Those who knew Jim would describe him as funny, loving, and interesting—a man who could effortlessly turn a mundane moment into a memorable one with his quick wit and infectious laughter. His stories were as captivating as they were numerous, each one more interesting than the last, leaving listeners with grins on their faces and warmth in their hearts.
Jim's departure from this world leaves a void that can never be filled. Yet, those who were fortunate enough to have known him will continue to carry his spirit within them.
