It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. James Joseph Scofield Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, who left this world unexpectedly on July 20, 2025 from Flower Mound, Texas, at the age of 69 to join the Lord Jesus Christ. Born on April 28th, 1956, in Washington D.C. Jim lived a life full of love, enthusiasm, and adventure making sure everyone knew of his Lord and Savior.
Jim was best known for his work spreading the gospel and the joy of knowing Jesus as your Lord and Savior. He worked night and day for Institute for Creation Research where he served as Chief Academic Officer and Associate Professor of Apologetics, served as a trial lawyer for many years before joining ICR, being a part time Texas Judge for 30 years, giving presentations across the country and writing hundreds of articles for ACTS and Facts magazine. Dr. James J.S. Johnson had many doctorates and knew numerous languages. He was know for his intelligence and his love of learning, but most of all he was known for being humble, kind to everyone and being happy. Jim's passion for life extended to traveling all over the world, learning about God's creation especially animals and birds, reading and collecting books, studying the Bible, writing, attending the DFW Scottish and Norwegian chapters, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Johnson, whom he married on May 23, 1977 and his children: Delane Richmond, Krista Ledbetter and Andrew Johnson. His grandchildren who loved him dearly are: David Vernon, Kenny Richmond, Kellie Richmond, Trenton Ledbetter, Jack Johnson, Sydney Ledbetter, Hunter Johnson, and Hudson Johnson. He is also survived by his siblings: Tom Johnson, Dan Johnson, Carolyn Oppenheimer, Barbara Macenczek and Bill Johnson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on August 9, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hills Community Evangelical Free Church located at 101 Frenchtown Road, Argyle, Texas 76227. Friends and family are invited to share in remembrance as we honor the remarkable life of a truly one of a kind extraordinary man. One of Jim's favorite verses was Luke 10:20 "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven."
