James Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 24, 2025.
James Kenneth Johnson, 92, of Denison, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2025, in Sherman, Texas.

He was born on February 2, 1933, in Whitewater, Wisconsin, to Bert and Bernice (Fish) Johnson. James proudly served his country in the United States Army for 23 years. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he worked as a mechanic and ammunition truck driver, dedicating his career to service with honor and commitment.

In the early 1980s, James made his home in Denton, Texas, and for the past two years, he resided in Denison with his daughter. Beyond his military career, James was a gifted woodworker, creating furniture and bowls that reflected his skill and patience. His greatest joy, however, was found in fishing-a lifelong passion that brought him peace and fulfillment.

On February 2, 1956, James married the love of his life, Delores Garmen. They shared 67 wonderful years together until her passing in December 2023.

James is survived by his children, Kathy Stone and husband Bobby of South Carolina, Susan Wells and partner Sylvester of Denison, Texas, and Debra Johnson of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Austin Stone and wife Holly, Jarret Stone and wife Hannah, Jennifer Hancock, and Kara Chamberlain and husband Joe; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores; his parents; and three brothers.

James and Delores will be united together once more during a private family ceremony along the river in Wisconsin-a place that held deep meaning and memories for him.
