James Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiley Funeral Home - Granbury on Feb. 11, 2026.
James Lee Johnson, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the age of 71 surrounded by love and held in the promise of eternal life through Christ. He was born January 1, 1955 in Mansfield, LA.

At the age of five James moved to West Texas where he was raised and his faith was shaped. James was a devoted Christian whose life reflected his deep love for God. His walk with Christ guided his daily life living with humility, kindness and purpose. James selflessly offered prayers, comfort, and encouragement over the people he would meet. He never met a stranger and had a unique way of making everyone feel welcome.

James' gentle spirit and caring heart extended to all of God's creation. He found joy in studying God's creation and often shared that passion with others seeing God's handiwork. His career as a geologist was a true calling that perfectly matched his lifelong love for rocks and nature. James also had a deep love for animals, especially his Boston Terrier dogs who brought him great joy and companionship. In his quieter moments, he took to his hobbies of tinkering with model trains and airplanes.

Above all else, James' greatest blessing was his family; he found his deepest joy in time spent with those he loved. James was married to his beloved wife, Paula Johnson, for 48 years and their marriage was a symbol of faith, love, and commitment – a true testimony to devotion, partnership and God centered family life.

James is preceded in death by his parents, JW Johnson and Bernice Johnson. He is survived by his wife Paula Johnson; his two children, Brandie Johnson and Michael Johnson (wife Sarah Johnson); his four grandchildren, Hannah Johnson, Milam Anderson (wife Elizabeth Anderson), Jimmy Johnson, and Morgan Campbell; and his two great-grandchildren, S.J. Stegall and Hazel Anderson.

James is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he loved and served. His faith was his foundation and his legacy of love, humility, and devotion to Christ will live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James's memory to The Gideons International, a ministry close to his heart.

"Jesus called the little child to Him, and place a child among them. And He said: 'Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'" -Matthew 18:2-4
