Barry Johnson

Barry Johnson, Sr., age 77, departed this life on January 16, 2026, at 12:11 p.m. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Barry was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and brother whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Evelyn Kimble Johnson of Opelousas, Louisiana; his son, Barry Johnson, Jr. of New Orleans, Louisiana; and his step-daughters, Coretta Matthews of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Tammy Matthews of Houston, Texas, by way of New Orleans, Louisiana.

He also leaves to mourn his loss his step-grandchildren: George Peterson V, Jada Peterson, Tamia Peterson, Sean Peterson, Jaden Peterson, Nailah Peterson, and Gabrielle Peterson; his siblings, Patricia Bailey, Leona Tate, Vanessa Moore, Cornelius Johnson, Jr., and Gilbert Johnson, Sr.; fifteen sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins-in-law; along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Barry also held a special place as the godfather to Melaina Fields, whom he loved dearly.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius Johnson; his mother, Evelyn Dobard Johnson; and his siblings, Virginia Payton and Jean Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on February 14, 2026, at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, located at 1020 Virgil Street, Gretna, Louisiana 70053 at 9:30 am, with Elder Roy Allen Broussard officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 am. Interment will follow at Dobard Cemetery in Jesuit Bend, Louisiana. A repass will follow the interment. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil Street.
