James Daniel “JD” Johnson, age 82, of Lake Park, Georgia, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026, at the home he shared with his late wife, Mildred Kirkman Johnson, who preceded him in death in May 2023. He was surrounded by those who cared deeply for him, including his beloved neighbor, Mark Terrell, as well as his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and John Jensen.
JD was born on August 19, 1943, in Stedman, North Carolina, to Tub and Caroline Johnson. After six years in the marine corps, he spent decades as a truck driver for Roadway. Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending his days at Francis Lake Golf Course, watching Law & Order, and playing casino games on his computer.
He was known for his spirited personality. JD loved a good debate and could be counted on to take the opposite side of any argument, not out of spite, but because he genuinely appreciated the art of dissent. When he wasn’t reading the local paper, he could often be found enjoying a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with a banana.
JD is now reunited with his beloved wife. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Grace Tew, who passed a few months ago.
He is survived by his brother, Tommy; many cherished members of his late wife’s family, including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and his daughter, Jennifer.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 7, 2026, in the Valdosta chapel of Music Funeral Services. Kind words and expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at www.musicfuneralservices.com.
