Mary Nell Evans, age 88, of Valdosta, Georgia passed peacefully at her residence on Monday, February 23, 2026. She was born on August 29, 1937, in Pearson, GA to loving parents, Ashborn Theordore “A.T.” Howard and Bernice Haskins Howard.
She was a loving and devoted woman whose warmth could be felt by everyone who knew her. For many years, she dedicated herself to her work as a hairdresser, building not only a loyal clientele but lasting friendships. She had a gift for making people feel beautiful, inside and out, and her chair was often filled with laughter and heartfelt conversation.
She was an active member of the Northlake Ladies Golf League and the Ladies Bowling League, where she enjoyed both friendly competition and the camaraderie of dear friends. Whether on the lanes or the golf course, she brought her bright spirit and steady determination.
She cherished riding with her daughter while she traveled for work, creating memories filled with joy. Above all, she adored caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her heart and greatest pride, and she poured endless love, time, and attention into their lives. Her legacy is one of devotion, kindness, and a love that will continue to surround her family always.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kate Davis, Billy Howard and Junior Howard.
Mary is survived by her husband, Gerald Franklin Evans Sr.; daughter, Debbie Rumker (Jerry); son, Jerry Evans Jr. (Vickie) and Patty Evans; grandchildren, Jodi Brannen (Ben), Amber McCue (Jehiah), JJ Hesters (Kelly), Evan Rumker (Erica), Dana Rumker (James) and Dena Sasser (Dustin); 14 great grandchildren and sister Ann Ray.
As per the family’s wishes, she will be cremated with no formal services at this time. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at www.musicfuneralservices.com. The Evans family is being served by the professional and caring staff of Music Funeral Services of Valdosta.
