James Konowitz Obituary
1950 - 2025
Nahant - James Walter Konowitz, age 75, of Nahant, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He was raised in Pompton Lakes, NJ, the son of the late John and Regina Konowitz. He graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in 1968 where he was an outstanding athlete in both wrestling and football. He received his bachelor's degree in journalism from West Virginia University in 1974. He fell in love with Nahant while working for TWA and had lived there for over 45 years.
James had worked as a suit manager for Sentry Insurance and Safety Insurance until his retirement. He loved the ocean and spending time at the beach, hiking the Adirondacks, playing racquetball at the Lynn YMCA and bowling. He looked forward to his Wednesday golf league at Kelley Greens in Nahant and was also a member of a Nahant softball league. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed traveling. James was happiest when spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Jaimie Konowitz and her husband McKinley Breau-Taylor; his brother Ron Konowitz; his sister Gina Reardon and her husband Gary; his nephews and niece, Chris, Michael and Brian Konowitz, and Heather Sheehy; his great niece and nephew, Jackson and Eliza Konowitz; his significant other Lauren Gallucci; as well as his friend and former wife, Laurie (Maroni) MacDonald.
Service Information: A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 11AM-3PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 17 Relay Yard, Nahant, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nahant Knights of Columbus (in memo: care of Jim Konowitz), 17 Relay Yard, Nahant, MA 01908, the Demakes Family YMCA, 40 Neptune Blvd., Lynn, MA 01902 or the Pok-O-MacCready Camps, c/o the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation, P.O.
