James Krancic Obituary

James "Jake" Krancic
Born: August 20, 1952 in Peoria, IL
Died: January 26, 2026 in Utica, IL
James "Jake" Krancic, passed unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his home in Utica, Illinois, on January 26, 2026. He still had many important things on his calendar, many more occasions that he was planning: family gatherings, breakfasts with his old friends, meeting new friends every time that he volunteered at the Visitors' Center at Starved Rock State Park or meeting the hikers at his beloved Matthiessen State Park. Jim was an adventurer, always seeking new experiences and new ways to use his many talents.
Jim's automotive training career took him to all compass points of the North American continent. His greatest joy was taking his girls along with him, to experience all that his travels could offer them as well. He marveled and delighted in the adventuresome spirit that lives in both of his children.
Jim was formed by the love of his families: loving grandparents, fathers, Frank and Ray, mothers, Eva and Dorothy, sisters and brother, Kay, Karen, Joe, Pam, and Diane. When Jim met his future wife, Carol, in the Peace Corps, in Sierra Leone, West Africa, it started a 52-year-old friendship that has only grown deeper as the years have passed. Jim embraced Carol's family as his own, and Eileen, David, Jeannie, LP, and Mary, and their families, became his family as well.
Jim's greatest joy were his children, Megan and Christopher, Sarah and Murphy, and their children, Anabelle, Foster, Hudson, Jack, and Milo Jacob. He spoke often of the miracle of watching his children grow and begin lives and families of their own. His final years were enriched by the memories that he sought to create with these children, who were so precious to his heart.
Jim's life was a life well lived, full of great integrity, generosity, and kindness. These qualities live on in "his girls," their families, and anyone lucky enough to have called him friend.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jacob Francis Krancic.
No services are planned at this time. Prey-Mueller Funeral Home, Oglesby is assisting the family.
Memorials may be directed to the "Krancic Grand-Children" Fund at LaSalle State Bank.

Mrs Krancic I a so sorry for your loss. The two of you were a wonderful team and such an amazing example to us all about what a beautiful friendship and partnership marriage should be. I always admired his artistic talents, that great mustache and he had the best laugh. You will be in my thoughts and prayers sending you strength. I know that you will be supported by love and support to comfort you at this hard time, because that is what you have done for so many others countless times. With all my heart, your Allie Cat!

Dear Carol and family,

My heart is heavy hearing this news. I´m glad I was able to talk with Jim a couple time in the last few years. My Mom, Sandy loved Jim and knowing this formed a connection between her kids and your family. I send my deepest condolences and love to you.

I served in Sierra Leone at the same time as Jim, but in the Northern Province in Makeni, so I never knew Jim well. But I somehow got to know both Bob and Janet Hauck.
My brother came to visit me after getting out of the Army - but I was a boring teacher living in a city. Bob Hauck (a good friend still) kindly offered to take my brother to see the real SL and that was when my brother met Jim. He LOVED that experience and still talks about it to this day.
When I called my brother today with the news about Jim, he was genuinely sorry.
So we BOTH send sincere condolences from Massachusetts to Carol and the whole family. May Jim rest in peace.

Jim was a friend from our Peach Corps days in Sierra Leone, along with his future wife Carol. Once back from Sierra Leone, while on a cross-country road trip, I stopped and stayed with them in a Illinois. So sorry to hear of his lost!
