James Edward Lanham

LANHAM, James Edward, was born on October 17, 1938, to Thomas Jackson and Ida Louise Lanham in Indianola, MS. As the son of a sharecropper, he learned the value of hard work.

He is survived by his daughter, Valera Lanham Brown (Reggie), two grandchildren, Alecia Brown Ohnemus (Kevin) and Mitch Brown (Erin); five great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Thea, Julia, Evalea and Benjamin Ohnemus; one great-grandchild, Hawkins Brown "on the way" to Mitch and Erin Brown; sister, Betty Brook; extended family and friends.

Mr. Lanham served his country in the Army as a young man, and thereafter was a mechanic in the Montgomery, AL area until his retirement. He used this talent to help others as long as he was able.

He found his niche in helping the less fortunate in the Food Bank ministry at Prattville Church of Christ for 10 years after giving his life to the Lord in retirement. He was also active in the CASA (Christians Against Substance Abuse) ministry.

He preceded in death by his wife, Julia Ryals Lanham; parents, Thomas and Ida Lanham and brother, Thomas Monroe Lanham.

Anyone wishing to donate in his honor is requested to give to the Prattville Church of Christ Food Bank.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 from Prattville Memorial Chapel at 11:00 am with Minister Brent Missildine and Minister Mark Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Darien Primitive Baptist Church, Luverne, AL. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial on Monday one-hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Frank Brown, Clip Knapp, Ross Meeks, Mark Yarbrough, Kevin Ohnemus and Roy Patty.
