James "Jim" Lanphier, age 73, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the MHP Serenity Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 16, 1952, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of James B. and Lois Alladeen (Clearwater) Lanphier. Jim attended the Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1970. After high school, he served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Wichita, Kansas, and worked for Texaco for 9 years until moving to Oskaloosa. Jim then started working at Goodyear Tire, then Osky Rental and lastly worked for Klyn Tire for over 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing and helping with race cars. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

He is survived by his children, Shelli Rae Lanphier of Wichita, Kansas, his sons, Brian Lanphier of Las Vegas and Christopher (Krista) Lanphier of Florida; 3 grandchildren, Justin Foust and Brady (Alex) and Jaxon Lanphier of Wichita, Kansas; 2 great grandchildren, Weslee and Teagan Lanphier; his siblings, Janet (Jeff) Van Der Beek, Diana Hensley, Beverly (Jimmy) Calhoun, Deb (Ron) Schuldt, Lisa (Bill) Brown, Tim (Carmen) Briggs, Jim (Karen McGriff) Briggs and Mike Lanphier. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and stepparents.

As was Jim's wish, cremation will take place and a private burial of cremated remains will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa. Bates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Honor Guard or the MHP Hospice Serenity House of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
