James Laporte Obituary
James "Clayton" Laporte, 66, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Lillian Tarpley Laporte, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. His memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel at 2:00 pm, and the family will receive friends beginning one hour prior.
Clayton was born March 23, 1956 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Margie Lafey Huggins Laporte and the late Maynard J. Laporte. Clayton was a veteran of the United States Navy, and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in North Charleston. He was also an avid all season fisherman and a longtime member of the Dixieland Bass Club.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, Clayton is survived by his daughters, Lisa Smith (Ken) of Charleston, Connie McCoy (Dennis) of Charleston, and Crystal Herndon of Iowa; brother, Darren Laporte (Camille) of Summerville; sisters, Cynthia Holliday (Andrew) of North Charleston and Valerie McGill (John) of Virginia Beach, VA; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations can be made in Clayton's honor to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
