James Leatherman Obituary

PLYMOUTH - James Allen Leatherman, 80, went to be home with the Lord on Sept. 6, 2025. The son of Daniel and Ruth (Bolton) Leatherman, James was born on January 28, 1945 in Earlston, PA.
At a New Year's Eve Party in 1977, James met the love of his life, Patricia Coffel. They both knew the moment they met that it was meant to be and their were united in marriage on May 28, 1978 at the Bremen Missionary Church. With open arms, James welcomed Patsy's family as his own; making family the forefront of what was most important in their lives. Whether it was a birthday celebration, holiday, or just attending sporting events for their grandchildren, James was the happiest when his family was together. James and Patsy would celebrate 45 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2023.
James faith in God was instilled at a young age where he was raised to read the bible each night from his father who was a Mennonite preacher. James found his home at the North Salem Church of God in Plymouth where he faithfully attended and served others.
James started out farming as one of his first jobs. He then transitioned into the role of being a truck driver where he found his true passion. He was dedicated to his career to be able to provide for his family. James worked for Chase Leasing and KBT until his retirement in 2007.
Exploring God's great creation was one of James favorite things to do. He created countless memories visiting Colorado or West Virginia, visiting family in Pennsylvania, and taking his grandchildren to Six Flags and Indiana Beach.
Those who knew James, knew that he was poetic by nature. He could tell a story through his words and his memory will live on in the poems he wrote and through his loving family.
James is survived by his children, Jackie Jones, Gary (Sherry) Montague, Randy Montague, Micky Montague and Buck Montague; 7-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsy; father, Daniel; mother, Ruth; and step-father, Norman; children, Bonnie Coffin, Danny Montague, and Jimmy Montague; grandchildren, Tangi and Warren; great-grandchild, Micah; and brother, Dan.
