James R. “Jim” Lien, 81, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Banner Baywood Medical Center, Mesa, AZ. Jim was born January 9, 1942, in Ceylon, MN, to Roy and Alvira (Knudson) Lien. He grew up and attended school in Wykoff, MN. Following high school, Jim continued his education at Luther College and then the University of Minnesota. Jim enlisted in the Army National Guard and worked in Minneapolis and Duluth before moving to Grand Forks, ND, where he enjoyed several years working at Griffith’s Department and later serving as VP at Herberger’s until retirement. On July 24, 1992, Jim married Mary Bogan Wilson. Together they made their home in Grand Forks before settling in Fargo in 2013 to be closer to family.
Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors, biking, hiking, camping, and traveling. Most of all, he loved spending his time with family, and attending all events involving his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for the love and dedication he had for his faith, family, friends as well as his humor, wit and adventurous spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, David (Sarah) Lien, Travis Lien, Scott (Sarah) Wilson, Kabie (Scott) Weisert, T.J. Wilson, and Kristin Wilson; grandchildren, Josey, Anna, James, Cullen, Lucey, Eli, and Mia; as well as his sister, Julianne Jahn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alvira; and his in-laws, Louie and Helen Bogan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 1:00 p.m., in Hope Lutheran Church, South Campus, Fargo, ND.
