Funeral services for Mr. James L. "Stuff" Linwood, Jr., 71, of Cason, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cason. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Mr. Linwood will lie in state for viewing from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, at the funeral home.
James Linwood, Jr. "Stuff" was born on March 22, 1954, in Cason, Texas, to the late Winnie Linwood and Luke Linwood. On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, James passed away peacefully at Avir at Rose Trail in Tyler, Texas.
James was a proud graduate of Daingerfield High School, Class of 1972. During his school years, he became well known for his talent in track and baseball. After high school, "Stuff" dedicated many years to hard and honest work. He was employed at Pilgrim's Pride in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and later transitioned to AAON in Longview, Texas. Unfortunately, due to his late wife's illness, he retired early to care for her.
"Stuff" was also known for installing audio sound systems and for his love of playing slow-pitch softball, not only for his community but for other teams as well whenever they needed him. He never hesitated to help others and was known for his generous spirit. Everyone knew that he would give you his last, or even the shirt off his back, but it would likely come with one of his famous speeches first.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Monica Rodgers Linwood; his parents, Winnie and Luke Linwood; his siblings Leslie B. Fridia, Preston Linwood, Horace Jr. Linwood, Willie Charles Linwood, Clara Mae Linwood, Billy Glenn Linwood, and Billy Joe Doddy (Linwood); as well as brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Willie James "Bob" Rodgers, Jimmy Chism, Melvin "Frank" Chism, John "Deke" Rodgers, William Paul Chism, and Tammy Craine.
He is survived by his sons Kenyon Rodgers and Randolph Linwood, and daughter Skylar Linwood; his bonus daughter, Jasmine Keller; siblings Patricia "Sook" Linwood, James H. Linwood, James A. Linwood, and special sister Sheila Brown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Sharon Hughes (Kelvin), Jackie Keller, Henry Younger, and Earnest Younger, Sr.
James's legacy continues through his four grandchildren: JaCori Denmark, Zakenya Linwood, Kenyasia Rodgers, and A'Lani Linwood; and three great-grandchildren, Xander Denmark, Layla Denmark, and A'Wrenleigh Cherry, all of whom brought him great pride and joy. He will also be remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
