James J. Liviola

James J. Liviola, age 89, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the Sanctuary of Geneva on March 31, 2015 following a brave and dignified battle with cancer. Jim was born in Cleveland, OH to George Sr. and Rosaria Alecci Liviola on December 18, 1925. The family moved from the Collinwood area of Cleveland to New London Road in Saybrook Township and engaged in farming. Following his brother, Peter, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army and fought at the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Purple Heart as the result of his bravery. Following the death of his brother, Peter (shortly before the end of World War II), Jim returned to the family farm and later married Vincenza (Vee) Radice on June 21, 1947. Together they established their family home in Geneva Township where they raised their four children. Jim and Vincenza celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2014. He and Vee were members of Assumption Church in Geneva. Jim was employed by Reliance Electric for 39 years, retiring in 1987. After retirement, Jim and Vee kept in touch with their Reliance friends at their weekly dinner outings. Jim enjoyed farming and gardening. Jim and Vee truly had "green thumbs" and, up until a few years ago, raised a beautiful and bountiful vegetable garden. Most of all, Jim enjoyed being surrounded by his family. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife Vincenza; children Rose Mary (Harold C.) Burns, Linda (Edward) Beeman, Peter G. (Lori Lamer) Liviola, and James (Tina) Liviola. He is also survived by grandchildren John (Jenn) Burns, Everett and Rachele Beeman, Erica Jackson and Michael Liviola and Sebastian and Dominick Liviola, 5 great grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Lidia (Jim) Beaver, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Peter and George Jr., and sister Clara Rozzo. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Western Reserve and the Sanctuary of Geneva staff for their compassionate care and attention. Without them, Jim's journey would have been much more difficult. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Monday, April 6, 2015 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 South Broadway in Geneva. A Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Bob Lanterman officiating will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 7th at Assumption Catholic Church, 594 West Main Street in Geneva. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Ashtabula with military honors being performed by the Ashtabula American Legion Post 103 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, OH 44004 or Assumption Church.
