James Logue Obituary

James J. Logue, Jr.

January 18, 1925 - March 26, 2025

James J. Logue, Jr., of Absecon, passed peacefully into eternity on March 26, 2025, at the age of 100 years, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, he enjoyed a happy childhood and a strong education. The son of proud Irish immigrants, he was raised with a love of his heritage and his Catholic Faith. Family, Faith, and love of our nation were central to Jim throughout his life.

After attending LaSalle College High School, he enlisted in the Merchant Marine and attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. During World War II, he served his country with pride in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean. He served until the end of the war, receiving an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Second Lieutenant.

After the war, Jim began a career in industry, eventually attaining the rank of Vice President at Spencer Gifts in Atlantic City, a position he loved, working with people who enriched his life. Following his retirement from Spencer Gifts in 1988, Jim began his post-retirement career, his dream job: working as a starter at Blue Heron Pines.

Through the years of his education, career, and retirement, he drew strength from the love of his family. He was proud to raise eight children, and his life with his beloved wife, Dolores, brought him great joy and peace. Together, they made their home a welcoming haven for extended family and friends.

A founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Jim quietly served his faith community over the past 50 years. For decades, he taught religious education classes. He also served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, bringing the Blessed Sacrament to those in hospitals and to the homebound. Each year, at the parish's Museum of Saints, Jim was, of course, St. Patrick. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and he was active in the Irish American Cultural Society of South Jersey.

In 2024, Jim was honored to receive medals for his military service, shortly before celebrating his 100th birthday with family and friends. He was deeply touched by the enthusiasm of his fellow parishioners and Abseconites as they held a small parade and ceremony in his honor for his birthday.

Jim was predeceased by his dear parents, James and Grace; his brother, Eugene; and his infant son, Brian Joseph. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores; his loving children, Susanne Snyder, Patricia, James (Jacqueline), Christine Tamburilla (Daniel), Michael, Sean, Peter (Maura), and Mary Hughes (Steve); 14 grandchildren, Micah (Katryna), James, Ian (Beth), Eric, Danielle (Peter), Christian, Antoinette, Patrick, Marina, Abigail, Stevie, Sloane, Seamus, and Ruairi; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Marie Claus; nieces and nephews; and other family members in the U.S. and Ireland.

Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, April 5. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Holy Spirit High School Tuition Assistance Fund. I worked with Mr. Logue for 6 years at Spencer Gifts fulfillment plant in Atlantic City. He was known for being vocal, yet always respected the employees as he kept things rolling smoothly. I learned from him in many ways.

My Dad and Mr Logue worked together at Spencer Gifts for many years and became good friends. I remember my Dad bringing Mr Logue home for lunch many a day for my Mom to cook for them. It gives me comfort to know that they will meet again in heaven. May they Rest In Peace.

I´m sorry to hear about the passing of James. He was a great friend to our family. James had a great golf game. He played in the Mc Gettigans 19th Hole League for years & won his flight division. I always enjoyed his kind words! RIP my friend

Jim was a treasure to the Zarych family. He was the very best example of a Catholic gentleman. He attended daily mass from the time we first met in 1980. After daily mass Jim would visit his dear father and take him and others communion. He always had a kind word of encouragement regarding work, family or religious life. Jim attended the SixThree Group at the Malvern Retreat for over 40 years until he became too ill to travel. Jim befriended my father at my father´s first retreat and they spent long hours talking about life and faith and World War II during which they both served. Jim will befriended most sorely missed.
