James Lovett Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

James A. Lovett, Jr., 82, of Delran, NJ, passed peacefully into Jesus' care, with his family by his side on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Born in Camden to the late James A. Lovett, Sr. and Thelma C. (Lentz) Lovett.
A proud retiree, Jim served over 35 years as an administrator for the New Jersey Dept of Corrections, earning the respect of everyone who worked with him.
Jim lived a life filled with love, laughter, and integrity. He was a big Irish guy with a generous heart and a wonderful wit. It wasn't unusual to find yourself-years later-still laughing at something he said. He believed that "you can't go wrong doing right," and his honesty and faith guided everything he did. He loved God, his family, his country, and his friends. He was his family's steady rock - their hero -because of the way he loved, protected, and showed up for them every single day. He shared a special bond with each of his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who became part of the family. Jim had a gift for making everyone feel like they were his favorite - because, in his eyes, they were. He never missed a chance to show it in the countless ways he cared for them - his generosity when he saw a need, shared a laugh, or simply being there when someone needed him.
A true champion of the underdog, it's no surprise "Rocky" ranked in his top five favorite movies. He also loved football (especially the Eagles), the Phillies, watching the news, movies, soft jazz, Frank Sinatra, and film soundtracks. Jim's laughter, kindness, and faith will be forever remembered by those who were blessed to know him.
Beloved husband to Margarite M. Lovett (née Parise). Loving father of Marybeth Linser (Doug), Karen Harper (Tim), and Margie Ryan (Dan). Cherished grandfather of Alexis Ryan (Tom Lynch), Emily Carrell (Brian), Kalen Linser, Troy Linser (Haley), Andrew Ryan, Amy Terra (Nicholas), Corinne Ruiz (Sebastian), Cole Linser, Danny Ryan, Savannah Harper, TJ Harper, and Luke Harper. Adored great-grandfather of Carter Lynch, Jace Lynch, Elizabeth Joy Terra, and Baby Girl Carrell arriving in February 2026.
Dear brother of Linda Nelson (Jim), Carol Callanan (Bill), and Mary Vishton (Rich), and the late Michael Lovett and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, November 14th, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Givnish Funeral Home, 1200 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson. A brief Celebration of Life will begin at 7:30 p.m. A morning visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov.15th, 9:15–10:15 a.m. at Givnish followed by a Funeral Mass, 11:00 a.m., Resurrection Parish, Church of the Holy Name, 260 Conrow Road, Delran, NJ. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who fought alongside Jim during his illness - especially Dr. Douglas Guggenheim, the dedicated nurses at the Penn Medicine Infusion Center in Cherry Hill, who treated and comforted him, Linda 10/20, whose warmth and cheer were a ray of sunshine, and the compassionate nurses and doctors at Virtua Hospital in Marlton. Your kindness, skill, and care meant more than words can express.
If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to Lifted Hands, 2029 Melstone Dr. Virginia Beach, Va 23456 or online at www.lifted-hands.org
