James Paul Mackey, a devoted family man and dedicated employee, passed away on June 16, 2024, at his residence. He was surrounded by his loving family during his last moments.
James was born on June 15, 1941, in Lincoln County, North Carolina. He spent over 30 years of his life working for Prudential Insurance, displaying unwavering commitment and professionalism in his career.
A graduate of Bessemer City High School, James excelled in sports, particularly football and basketball. He later attended Boys State and was recognized as Gaston County's most valuable player. James's passion for sports extended to his personal life as well; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping in the mountains. He shared a special bond with David over their fishing adventures. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, In addition to his successful career and athletic achievements, James was known for being a loving family man. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather who cherished spending quality time with his family. His trips to the mountains and beach home brought him immense joy.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Judy Summey Mackey; children Brent and Rhonda Mackey, Greg and Dawana Mackey, Blair Mackey, Alisa and Harold "Jr" Johnson; special cousin, Maria Mack; grandchildren C.J., Rusty, Marie, Jordan, Anna, Victoria, Brianna, Lindsey; step-grandchildren Michael, Josh, Lauren, Hunter; great-grandchildren Brantley, Ashlyn, Blakely, Addy, Rhett; step-great-grandchildren Audrey, Aniston, Masen, Samantha, Sabrina, Hunter, Keleigh, Kendyl ,Avery, Shyann, Hayden, Tucker, and Corbin.
He is predeceased by his mother Helen Absher Kelly and grandson Daniel Mackey.
The visitation for James will be held at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Dallas 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 19th followed by the funeral service from 11:00 AM with Reverend Dr. John Spencer officiating. Interment will be private.
James Paul Mackey will be remembered for his dedication to his family, admirable work ethic, love for sports and the outdoors, and unwavering faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
