It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle, James Russell Macomber (83) on October 1, 2024 at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC. His unexpected passing from this earth has left us heartbroken but we are rejoicing knowing he is now with our Heavenly Father and Jesus in heaven.
Survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Cedergren) Macomber of over 60 years, beloved daughters Laurel Craghead of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, Karen Macomber of Spruce Pine, NC, Heather (John) Black of Mashpee, Ma, Amy (TJ) Popillo of Forestdale, MA. Sisters Gale (Dick) Anderson of Canton, MA and Joyce Peloso of East Bridgewater, MA. Grandchildren Alexis, Serena, Jacob, Cameron and Great Grandson Ryder along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born on January 3, 1941 in Brockton, MA to the late Russell and Verna (Young) Macomber. After graduating high school he entered the Army national guard reserve in Fort Sill, OK. where he served for 2 years. During his career he worked as a welder for Modern Continental for over 40 years.
He loved the beaches of Cape Cod and Florida, however, upon his retirement, Jim and Barbara found their true calling in the Mountains of North Carolina.
Jim was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a cherished deacon, friend and Gideon who loved his church family. He enjoyed opening up the school every morning and greeting the children as they arrived.
He took great pride in being a member of the Gideon International family serving as Chaplin in the Mitchell County camp.
A special thank you to Rick Wiseman who was Jim's confidant, best friend and special brother in Christ.
The whole Macomber family would like to thank everyone for their love and support.
Due to the impact of hurricane Helene memorial services in North Carolina and Massachusetts will be delayed with details to be announced at a later date.
