James J. "Jim" Madden

Mr. Madden was an extraordinary and caring teacher who always put his students first. As a French and homeroom teacher at Southern Junior High (SJH) in Somerville in the 1960s, he helped make my transition from Catholic to public school. I was terrified, but he always took the time to check in on how I was doing. As a high schooler, I regularly visited him at SJH. Many years after graduation, I ran into him at a Harvard Square restaurant and it was such a joy to tell him the difference he's made in my life. I will miss him and so will all of his former students.

Seamus, you were such a wonderful teacher as well as a special family friend. You will be missed but will always hold a special place with us (the McCune family).

My Dancing teacher,mentor,and all together lifetime of lessons taught besides Dancing Jim.i am blessed to have had you in my life and my families life. Thanks for all you gave.
