James David Mahaffey, age 76, of Crockett passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024 at his home. James was born April 25, 1948 in Camden, TX to parents, James William Mahaffey and Fredda Bryant Mahaffey. He was a cattle buyer for many years being well known around all sale barns and also wasthe former manager of the East Texas Livestock Sale Barn.
James had a wonderful memory of the cattle he sold even recognizing them when being sold again.
James is survived by wife, of 41 years, Linda Hill Mahaffey of Crockett; daughter, Tammy Marsh and husband, Mike of Crockett; grandchildren, Will Mahaffey and wife, Brittney, Seth Mahaffey and wife, Ashtyn of Flynn, Drew Mahaffey of Huntsville, Magan Hamrick and husband, Donnie of Weldon, Lane Cook and wife, Brittney of Midway, Madison Cook and fiancé, Kolton Thibobeaux of Crockett, Macie Cook of Crockett, Heather Bishop and husband, Jim of Grapeland, Trevor Marsh of Midlothian; great-grandchildren, Cayden and Benton, Maverick, Cannon and Ramsey, Colby and Cort, Kaine, Kenlee and Preslee, Brantly, Tildyn and Lainey, Swayze; sister and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Nolan Conner of Chester, Everett Powell of Chester; sister-in-law, Janice Mahaffey of Grapeland.
He was preceded in death by sons, James Scott Mahaffey, Troy Lynn Hutchins; parents, James and Fredda Mahaffey; sisters and brother-in-law, Sheran Powell and Bobbie and Bob Priest.
Graveside funeral services for James David Mahaffey will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the Mahaffey Family Cemetery in Chester, Texas.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
