James Joseph Mahoney Jr.

March 1, 1925 – September 20, 2025

James Joseph Mahoney Jr., 100, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Sunrise Assisted Living, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Buffalo, New York, on March 1, 1925, to the late James J. and Katherine Mahoney, James lived a long and remarkable life defined by service, dedication, and love. A proud veteran, he served with honor as a navigator in the United States 13th Air Force Division, 307th Bomb Group, and 371st Bomb Squadron, flying more than forty-two combat missions from New Guinea, Noemfoor, and Morotai during World War II.

After his discharge, James used the GI Bill to earn his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Buffalo. He went on to build a distinguished career designing air conditioning and heating systems, first with Fedders Corporation, which brought him to Bridgewater Township in 1966, and later with Skil-Aire, where he worked until his retirement.

James was predeceased by his beloved wife of 76 years, Carmella M. "Connie" Mahoney, who passed away in 2023, and by his son-in-law, Hank Pfister. He is survived by his devoted children: James and his wife Susie, Paul and his wife Linda, and Mary; and by his five cherished grandchildren: Patrick, Devin, Natalie, Brendan, and Thomas.

A man of many interests, James found joy in solving Sudoku, crossword puzzles and cheering for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame

Above all, he treasured the love and support of his family, who were the center of his life.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville. Entombment will take place at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung.

James will be remembered for his courage, dedication, and the deep love he shared with those closest to him.
