WOODFIN - James "Wesley" Maloy, Sr., age 84, of Woodfin went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Mission Hospital.
Mr. Maloy was born on February 17, 1940, in Jacksonville, FL and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. Wesley joined the United States Army right out of high school and then moved to Woodfin to raise his family. He had a long career in maintenance at Square D until his retirement. He recently attended Freedom Baptist Church and was a long time member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church.
Mr. Maloy was the son of the late Ruby Eunice and Johnny J. Maloy and was also preceded in death by daughter, Tammy Lynn Luther; sister, Doris Watson and her husband Frank; and brother-in-law, Earl Hannah.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Barbara Ann Rice Maloy; son, James Wesley "Wes" Maloy, Jr. and his wife Lynn; sisters, Connie Donthnier and Bonnie Hannah; brothers Johnny Maloy and David Maloy; grandchildren, Ashley Tanner and husband Andrew, Brooke Lusk and husband Roy, Sarah Maloy, Logan Cantarero and wife Jocelyn, and Dalton Luther and wife Lexi; eight great grandchildren plus one on the way; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wesley's funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, NC 28787, with the Rev. Steve Rhinehart of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Rd., Asheville, NC 28804. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 1:15 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. in the Chapel of West Funeral Home.
