James Marro, born February 6, 1949 in Cortland Manor, NY passed away in Palm Harbor, FL on Tuesday May 31, 2022 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. He is predeceased by his father Joseph (2001) and mother Adelaide (2007). Jim graduated from Yorktown High School in 1967. He was a member of the NY National Guard for 6 years. Jim was a certified Master Mechanic and worked in the automotive trade for over 30 years. His love for cars began at childhood when an uncle gave him his old car and the challenge that "if he could disassemble the entire thing and rebuild it, the car would be his". Jim accepted the challenge and the car was his before his 12th birthday. Cars were his life-long passion and Jim collected, restored and built a number of American and European classics, street rods, and his favorite, his 1974 Beetle – of which, it's legacy will remain in the Marro family. For the majority of his life, when not teaching anyone within earshot the effectiveness of proper usage of profanity, Jim could be found in his garage tinkering on his cars, his son's motocross race bikes, or his daughter's sporty cars.
Jim married Christine (Tyson) in 1974. The family remained in Yorktown Heights until 1987 and later moved to Poughquag, NY. In 2003 he and Christine decided that they were done with snow and moved to Central Florida. They then moved to Clearwater, FL in 2006.
He was diagnosed with serious illness in 2007 and continued to battle a number of other diagnoses over the years as he was just too stubborn to allow these medical issues to impact his life longer than temporarily. As his health began to decline in recent weeks, Jim made the brave decision to stop dialysis and entered Hospice for his remaining days. He did it his way; surrounded by his family, laughing at inappropriate jokes and after a good meal. We should all be so lucky to have that opportunity.
He is survived by his wife Christine of Clearwater, FL; son Michael, daughter-in-law Dena, grandsons Mason and Blake of Hopewell Junction, NY; daughter Melissa of Palm Harbor, FL, NY. Jim will be laid to rest alongside his parents and other members of the Marro family on a future date at Assumption Cemetery in Peekskill, NY. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
