James Morris Matlock

James Morris Matlock, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 18, 2025, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. Born on May 24, 1953, in Shreveport, Louisiana, James led a life characterized by dedication, hard work, and a deep appreciation for family and the simple joys of life.

James enjoyed a long and commendable career, retiring after 33 years from the Swepco Lieberman power plant. His earlier years were marked by his passion for building, having constructed not only houses but also many birdhouses that showcased his craftsmanship. He briefly worked for Beaid Pulan and served with pride in the Shreveport Fire Department. Known for his kind spirit and reserved nature, James was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes to those who knew him.

In his younger days, James found great pleasure in fishing and hunting, immersing himself in the beauty of nature. Later in life, he cherished the moments spent drinking coffee on the front porch alongside his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Cindy Westmoreland M. They shared a loving union that spanned 54 years, nurturing a partnership filled with warmth and companionship.

James is survived by his devoted wife Cindy, daughter Sharla Heil and her husband John, daughter Amanda Jense (Henning), and son James Matthew Matlock (Lindsay). He was a proud grandfather to Dokota Dupont (Ashley), Zachary Dupont (Cassie) , Carter Jensen (Madison) , Hayden Smith, Leah Jensen, and Kennedy Matlock. James also welcomed the joy of being a great-grandfather to Lane Dupont.

He was preceded in death by his late parents, James Hart Matlock and Vernice Knoppers Matlock, and his late sister, Joyce Bailey.

A graveside service will be held on December 26, 2025, at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. The service will commence at 10:00 AM, with Dr. Scott Teutsch officiating.

James Morris Matlock will be remembered for his gentle nature, unwavering love for his family, and the simple pleasures that brought him happiness throughout his life.
