James May Obituary

James Rice May, 74, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away on October 9, 2025, after a sudden illness at his home. James was born on August 26, 1951, to the late Billy G. and Mary Ainsworth May.
After graduating from Magee High School in 1970, James chose to serve in the Air National Guard. He worked at various local businesses and was especially fond of his time at Foster Furniture in Magee. He became an auctioneer, working with both real estate and equipment. As a lifelong member of Goodwater Baptist Church, his regular attendance was only interrupted as he cared for his adult, legally blind son, his wife, and his mother.
He attended the 55th Class of 1970 Reunion this past summer. He kept up with friends, far and near, on Facebook. James enjoyed delivering unique gifts to special people: a goldfish to a little girl with a new pool, cut flowers to special friends, fresh tomatoes to those who could no longer pick for themselves. Though he may have come across as a mild-mannered, quiet person to some, he always had a remark to make that could put a smile on anyone's face.
He is survived by his niece, Allyson Hollier (Greg) of Arnaudville, Louisiana, and his brother-in-law, Jackie Lofton, of Natchez, MS. He is also survived by a host of cousins and a community of friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudene Spears May; son, Bill May; parents, Billy G. and Mary Ainsworth May; and his sister, Marie May Lofton.
Visitation will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., immediately followed by a graveside service at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Mississippi School for the Deaf and Blind at 1252 Eastover Dr., Jackson, MS 39211 - a place very dear to James' heart.
