James Robert McCarthy "Rock"
Victor: Jim McCarthy, 79, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024. His career included 35 years as a Xerox executive, a college professor, and his proudest accomplishment-Pop Warner football coach.
His mother once said that she would regard him a success if he was a good husband, father and friend. Added to that list must be a good grandfather. Rock, as we affectionately called him, has to be considered a "roaring success".
He was known as a tee shirt collector, a lover of flowers, an organizer of football pools, and a critic of all sports' athletes.
It was the twinkle in his eyes, the warmth radiating from him, and his "gift of gab" that appealed to everyone he met. Everyone was his close, personal friend.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Kay McCarthy, his siblings, John McCarthy and Mary Kelley, and his children, Rob, Patrick and Meghan.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Polly, his "Sweet Dumplin", his sons, Jim (Karen), Dan (Samantha), his daughter-in-law, Katie (Tim) and his joys of his life – his grandchildren, Finn, Liam, Sean and Bridie McCarthy.
Services will be held at Mary Magdalene Church, 1008 Main Street, East Rochester, NY on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 10AM which would have been Jim's 80th birthday.
