James McDaniel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. - Hartsville on Apr. 29, 2025.
JAMES ELWOODS MCDANIEL, affectionately known as "Jamie" or "Studda," peacefully transitioned on April 26, 2025, at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in Hartsville, South Carolina, on April 16, 1979, a son of the late Harold McDaniel and Dorothy Wilson McDaniel. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and attended Centerville AME Church.
"Studda" was a retired cook from the Refuel Stores, where he spent countless hours creating meals for the many customers who came his way. His retirement in 2023 did not slow him down; instead, he focused more on his beloved family and hobbies. His children and grandchildren were the center of his world, and he often found joy in watching his sons play football. He was a fervent supporter of the San Francisco 49ers, and he loved crime shows, such as "I Almost Got Away With It," "Forensic Files," and "Snapped." He also enjoyed watching H-Block and Magraw Avenue. James infectious laughter and radiant smile could light up any room, and he was unshakable in his beliefs. Jamie filled every moment of his 46 years with courage, ambition, humor, and adventure.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold McDaniel; brother, Mario McDaniel; grandfathers, James Wilson and Bennie McDaniel, Sr.; grandmothers, Rosa Lee Toney, Bernice Hamlin, and Mildred M. McDaniel; aunts, Arondia McLean and Sharon Squire; and uncles, Bennie McDaniel, Jr., Chris McDaniel, Larry McDaniel, and Tommy Patterson.
James Elwoods McDaniel is survived by his mother, Dorothy McDaniel; ex-wife, Kenyatta McDaniel; children, Ty'Querria Hawkins, T'Lyiah Witherspoon, Amaya McDaniel, Destinee Lucas, Carmello McDaniel, and Demonte Capehart; siblings, Rodriquez Wilson, Clifton Washington, Denise (Kevin) Peterson, and Shemeka Wilson; grandmother, Annie B. Wilson; aunts, Priscilla Wilson, Vanessa Caine, Barbara (Kendrick) Bramble, Theresa Johnson, Eleanor Sowells, Mary McDaniel, Judy McDaniel, Malinda (Lamar) Gray, Michelle McDaniel, and Adrian and April McDaniel; uncles, James (Janie) McDaniel, Nelson (Teresa) McDaniel, Terry (Lorraine) McDaniel, Wayne (Jasmine Tyese) McDaniel, Walter McDaniel, and Randy McDaniel; close friends and cousins, Tetus Wilson, Rondell Rembert, and Larry Prescott; and many other relatives and very dear friends.
