James McDaniel Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 12, 2026.
James Nielsen McDaniel, of Harrison Twp., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at the age of 68 in Mt. Clemens. Born on February 27, 1957, in Charlotte, NC, James was a man of humor, intelligence, and a gentle spirit that touched the lives of many.
James proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1975 to 1978, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of duty and honor that he carried throughout his years. Following his service, he embarked on a dedicated career with the John E Green Company in Highland Park, where he worked as a pipefitter for fire suppression systems. His commitment to his work was evident as he contributed 26 years of service before retiring in 2006.
Family was the cornerstone of James's life. He is survived by his loving children, Paul McDaniel of Smith Creek, Mary McDaniel of NC, and Theresa (Frank) Lalone of Chesterfield Twp. His joy was multiplied with the birth of his three grandchildren, Veira Rose Lalone, Andrew McDaniel, and Seth McDaniel, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and laughter. James also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, Michael (Gayle) McDaniel of NC, who will miss his companionship and brotherly love. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Darlene (Nielsen) McDaniel, who instilled in him the values of family and community.
An avid NASCAR fan, James found excitement and camaraderie in the roar of the engines and the thrill of the race. His sense of humor was infectious, and he had a remarkable ability to find the funny side of any situation, bringing smiles to all who knew him. Those who had the pleasure of engaging in conversation with James knew of his intelligence, as he could speak thoughtfully on a wide range of topics, always eager to learn and share his knowledge.
James's gentle nature was a comfort to his friends and family. He approached life with a calm demeanor, offering a listening ear and a supportive shoulder to anyone in need. His presence was a source of stability and love, and the memories of his kindness will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
As we say goodbye to James Nielsen McDaniel, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of joy, service, and unwavering love for his family. His spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind, and his memory will be held close in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
