James McGuire Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Asheville Mortuary Services on Mar. 29, 2026.
James "Jim" L. McGuire, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Army veteran, and man of quiet faith, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, humility, and devotion to family.

Jim was born to James Lawrence and Josie Bell McGuire and was the second youngest of seven children. Growing up in a large family instilled in him the values of faith, perseverance, and deep connection-guiding principles he carried throughout his life.

He proudly served in the United States Army, spending time overseas in Germany. His service reflected his commitment, discipline, and love of country.

He is survived by his three children: Joel (Katrina) McGuire, Erin McGuire, and Matt McGuire. He was a proud grandfather to Adam (Stephanie) Stark-McGuire, Forrest Sledge, Lidia McGuire, Anna (Mitchell) Ramirez (née McGuire), and Connor (Chloe) McGuire. He was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Kai and Elsie, who brought him great joy.

Jim dedicated 45 years of service to Conrail Railroad, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet leadership. After retiring, he made his home in Asheville, North Carolina, where he embraced a season of rest and play.

In Asheville, Jim spent many happy hours on the golf course and discovered a passion for ballroom dancing. His dedication and natural grace led him to compete and win numerous awards. Though a quiet man, his love for dancing and time spent with family and friends reflected the joy of a simple life.

He was an avid sports enthusiast with his favorite being baseball.

A man of faith, Jim trusted in God's plan and lived his life with humility, kindness, and love for others. His steady presence and gentle spirit will be deeply missed, but his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace and welcomed home.

A celebration of life will be held at Julian Woods Retirement Home at 421 Overlook Road Ext in Arden from 11:30am to 2:00pm
