James Boyd McLane, Jr., 77, of Edgewood, a cherished husband, father, adored grandpa, and brother, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky. Born on June 19, 1947, in Cincinnati, James lived a life characterized by hard work and dedication. He served his country as a proud Army veteran, an experience that shaped his values and work ethic throughout his life. He was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge and the Elsmere American Legion.
James, lovingly called Jim or Jimbo, is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Vickey Thacker McLane, who stood by his side through life’s triumphs and challenges. Together, they raised a family that brought him immense joy. He is survived by his sons, David McLane and Robert Thacker, who is married to Karen; as well as his daughter, Michelle Gibbs, who is married to Jesse. Jim shared a special bond with his brothers and sisters: Curtiss McLane (Cindy), Beverly Phillips (Joe), Kenneth McLane (Rosemary), and Diane McLane. The presence of his grandchildren filled him with pride and happiness, making him a beloved grandfather to Haley, Amber and Allie McLane, Evan and Lauren Thacker, and Emily and Molly Gibbs. His legacy will continue through them. To his grandchildren he was more than a grandfather — he was a hero, a storyteller, and a best friend. He taught them that joy isn’t found in grand gestures, but in the everyday, meaningful moments. Whether it was playing on the floor with his grandkids, or sharing a story and a hug, he always wanted to make them laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James McLane and Betty Cullum Lukemire, who have left a lasting impact on his life.
For many years, Jim worked as an Offset Pressman, honing his craft and becoming an esteemed member of the printing community. What he truly enjoyed in his life was spending time with his family and friends, and being outdoors, especially, hunting, camping, and fishing. If you were lucky enough to be around Jim, you knew that he was the life of the party, and you were guaranteed to have a good time.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home - Chapel A, located at 5336 Old Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY 41015.
