James V. Meehan, age 69, of Michigan City, IN passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at his home with his devoted wife by his side. He was born on October 23, 1955 in Chicago, IL to James I. and Margaret M. Meehan who have preceded him in death. On November 8, 1997 he married Nancy (Brakenridge) Meehan in Michigan City, who still resides there. Jim is survived by his siblings, Mary Miller, Catherine Kurzhal, Michael (Jessica) and Patrick Meehan; his brother-in-law, Bob (Marianne) Brakenridge; sister-in-law, Sue (Ed) Adams. There are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who loved him. His is also preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Tweedy and Ruth Olesky; and niece Lindsay Hartley. He proudly served in the US Army and the National Guard. He was a Lieutenant at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City when he retired. He enjoyed nature, star gazing, air shows and loved the Grand Prix boat races. He also spent his lifetime fishing. He was a person who always went out of his way to help someone. He was concerned about the environment and contributed by picking up trash or litter in the neighborhood. He loved meeting and talking to anyone he met. A special thank you to the kind neighbors, Liz and Thomas Grathwohl, for their unceasing helpful care of Jim during his last week at home. Friends may visit with the family at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, located at 613 Washington St., Michigan City, IN on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of Military Honors at 12:00 pm with service to follow immediately with Pastor Jack Andrews, officiating. From watching Jim care for my sister Nancy, and his willingness to engage with strangers to make connections either people, this spirit of caring will be missed. Be at Peace, Jim, and thank you for everything you have done.

I was saddened to learn of you taking up a new residence. One of ISP´s greatest. The funniest at doing the Cabbage dance. Thanks for all your encouragement. I will miss you requesting me to make some potato salad. May you Rest In Peace.
