James Meleo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home on Dec. 8, 2025.
James O. "Jim" Meleo, 83, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, under the loving care of AVOW Hospice. Born on March 10, 1942, in Dorchester, MA, he was the son of the late Orlando and Josephine (Ciriello) Meleo.

Jim was raised in Massachusetts and was a proud graduate of Middleboro Memorial High School. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, honorably serving his country from 1959 to 1964. Following his military service, Jim began what would become a distinguished 40-year career with the Raytheon Corporation. Starting as a line worker, he steadily advanced to become an electrical engineer, working at the company's Lowell and Andover, MA, facilities. In his early forties, Jim returned to college, earning his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Fitchburg State University-an accomplishment of which he was immensely proud. He retired from Raytheon in 2003.

A resident of Bonita Springs since 2005, Jim embraced the Florida lifestyle. He and his late wife, Jeanne, enjoyed traveling the world together. Japan and Egypt held a special place in his heart. Jim was also an avid golfer who cherished time on the course with friends and loved ones.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Lisa Saunders, of Methuen, MA; his son, James J. Meleo, and his wife, Dawn, of Winter Haven, FL; three brothers, Albert Meleo of Bonita Springs, FL, Andrew Meleo, and his wife, Lucille, of Middleboro, MA and Steven Meleo, and his wife, Barbara, of Middleboro, MA; one sister, Janice Meleo, of Middleboro, MA; three grandchildren, Patrick John Philbrick, Courtney Elizabeth Philbrick, and Anthony Allen Meleo; his companion, Mary Ann Marinelli; and many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue North, Naples, FL 34108. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John's Memorial Garden.
