Mr. James Harris Merriman, 72, of Linden, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on October 31, 1953, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, to Virgil and Erma Vickery Merriman.

A 1971 graduate of Wayne County High School, James went on to vocational school and spent his career working in welding and maintenance. Known for his strong work ethic and remarkable skill, James could build or repair just about anything. His engineering mind and creative spirit made him the one everyone called when something needed fixing-or figuring out. James had worked through the years at Johnson Controls/Fisher & Co. and Graham Lumber Company before retiring.

James was a lover of all things classic, from cars to music. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, coming up with clever solutions to everyday problems, and watching his favorite old shows. To his family, he was "Papa"-a title he wore with pride. He spent his later years piddling around the house and laughing with his grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by his father, Virgil Merriman.

Survivors include his mother, Erma Merriman; his devoted wife of 50 years, Myra Merriman; his daughter, Janell Hill (Adam); and his son, Daniel Merriman (Cayley). He was a proud grandfather to Lydia Hill, Henry James Hill, Lila Merriman, and Walt Harris Merriman. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend, Randall Creecy, who was truly like a brother to him and a host of other loving family members and many, many friends.

James will be remembered for his gentle humor, steady hands, and kind heart. His love for his family and his gift for fixing whatever was broken, whether a motor or a moment, will continue to shape our lives for years to come.
