James Lawrence Midgett "Jimmy", 59, passed away on February 28, 2026, at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Florida.

Jimmy was born on March 2, 1966, in Norfolk, Virginia, to James Lawrence Midgett and Carol Fish, both of whom preceded him in death.

An avid fisherman, Jimmy had a lifelong love of the water. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, shrimping, and crabbing, and spent many peaceful hours pursuing his passion along Florida's waterways. At home, he also enjoyed caring for his cichlid fish tanks, which his family often joked could have replaced the televisions in his house.

Jimmy came to Florida in 1979 while working with Norfolk Dredging during the expansion of Port Canaveral. During that time, he met Justine, who was working as a bank teller in Cocoa Beach. The two would go on to build a life together while Jimmy continued his work in the dredging industry as a deckhand. They followed the dredging work for several years before settling in Port St. John in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Justine Midgett; his children, James Midgett, Jr., Lauren Midgett, and Lindsey Midgett; his granddaughter, Hannah Mayers; his sister, Lynda Midgett; and his nephews, Sean Pearson and James D. Midgett.

Jimmy also shared a special bond with his beloved chocolate Labrador, Leroy Brown, who was like a constant companion and "Jimmy's child." The two were often found together outdoors, enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Jimmy will be remembered for his love of the water, his quiet dedication to his family, and the simple joys that defined his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jimmy's memory to the American Kidney Fund or to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at https://myfwc.com/get-involved/support-fwc/.
