James Joseph Mier SFC, US Army retired, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 0529.
SFC Mier was a proud veteran and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), and numerous other awards.
James was born on March 28, 1948 in Sinajana, Guam. He was the son of Maximo Albete Mier and Euella Taitano Olive Mier. He grew up in Eleele, Kauai, Hawaii and attended Waimea High School. At the age of 18, James enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to various worldwide duty stations from Okinawa to Germany to Fort Bliss, Texas. He served Honorably and retired his Army career at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
Once he retired from the Army, James made Oahu, Hawaii his permanent home. He worked as a Logistics Manager and continued to enjoy diving, fishing, expanding his collection of cherished seashells, cooking, upkeeping his home, gardening, and playing his guitar and ukulele with family and friends. James had endless stories. He loved reminiscing his childhood with his siblings and his Army days with his Army brothers.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Marlene Puanani Aken Mier; children, Raymond Kenji Mier (Gina), Leo Kimo Mier (Jing), Lorraine Kaori Mier Brentnell (David), Brandon K.K. Kekahuna, and William K.K. Kekahuna (Chantell); grandchildren, Ronnie M.D. Mier (Yvonne), Tatianna Putri Leimomi Galizia (Matthew), Henry "Eha" Polohau Kahula IV, Reynalynn M.D. Anderson (Quentin), Sophia Kai Mier, Lyric Palu, Caroline Kekahuna, and Lexcen Kekahuna; great grandson Ezra Mier; brothers Albert Mier and Michael Mier; sisters Carolyn Mendiola and Doreen Winkler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
