James Lorin Miller

Surrounded by family, James Lorin Miller passed peacefully on Saturday the 28th of September 2024 at the age of 76 from health complications of sarcoidosis. Jim was born on June 1, 1948 in Fowler, CA. A true learner, Jim's thirst for knowledge followed him throughout his life. Jim graduated South Lake Tahoe high school in 1966 and he boogied into the heart of Jane, his now wife of 57 years, in 1967 at the Crimson Castle dance club in Fresno, California. A Vietnam era member of the US army, Jim always understood what a privilege it was to uphold and protect the Constitution. Jim began the role of a lifetime as father to first born Laura and second born Jeffrey who passed in 1994. In 1972, Jim graduated from Sacramento State and joined the Placer County Sheriff's office in 1974. He later became a general contractor where he exercised his creativity and craftsmanship leading to his ultimate project now lovingly known as Wise Ass Ranch in Newcastle - established in 1994. His friends and family will be forever grateful for the memories harvested with him on the farm. Watching him work through projects and daily upkeep instilled the value of hard work into his grandchildren Devon (Ryan), Taylor (Brooks), Zachary and Kendall. Gpop's pride for the property will live on with his great-grandchildren Rowan Jane, Elle Josephine, Miller Audrey and Everett James (aka E. Jimmy) and generations to come. An avid reader, history buff, and animal advocate; he never read a museum placard he didn't like. His generosity was unmatched, always giving without expectation of anything in return. Jim had a knack for getting to know others and maintained friendships with ease. Any time of day you could see him tending to the animals and listening to the 60's gold music countdown all while being followed by his four legged best friend Gretyl.
Along with his wife, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jim is also survived by his two brothers and one sister along with many loving sisters and brothers in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews who will carry him forever in their hearts. We know Jim would want us to raise a margarita filled glass or cerveza to celebrate his legacy until we are all together again. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm Saturday October 12th at Wise Ass Ranch. In honor of Jim's generous heart, the family welcomes donations to disabled American veterans or an animal rescue center in lieu of flowers.
