James Vernon Moore, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 22, 1941 to the late James Debs and Alma Dewel Hinshaw Moore. He was the husband of 57 years to the late Peggy Smithey Moore who died in February.

Vernon was a carpenter building houses with his brother and later retired from Mebane Packaging. He served in the US Navy and was a longtime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church. He enjoyed working with his hands and could make anything by looking at a photo. Vernon enjoyed playing golf and gardening. He enjoyed watching sports and loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Shari Gray of Burlington and Tiffany Bergett and husband, Michael of Raleigh; grandchildren, Austin Baker, Braeden Gray, Jacob Bergett and Elaina Bergett; brothers, Frank Moore and wife, Vicki and Jack Moore all of Burlington; sister-in-law, Kathy Moore of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Doug Moore and an infant sister.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 2:00PM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Walter Jones. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45PM prior to the service. The burial will take place at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors by the US Navy. The family will be at the home of Shari Gray at other times.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Authoracare Hospice and Affordable Family Care, especially Keshona Horner who took good care of him for the past 5 months.
