James Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Dec. 20, 2025.
James J. Moore,Jr., affectionately known as "Jimmy" or "Bells," passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, at his residence in Philadelphia, PA.

Jimmy dedicated his life to the labor movement through his work with the United Auto Workers (UAW), tirelessly organizing workers to advance their rights, wages, and working conditions. His commitment to fairness and solidarity left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Jimmy was a proud founding member of the James "Froggy" Carr New Year's Brigade, where he participated in the Mummers tradition for decades. His passion and enthusiasm helped shape the spirit of the brigade, making him a beloved figure in the club.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his paternal father James J. Moore; his parents Francis Callan and Helen (Plunkett); his siblings Patricia Black, Francis "Mickey" Collins, Kathleen Moore, Joseph Callan, and Patrick Callan; and his son James J. Moore III.

He will be deeply and sincerely missed by his wife Eileen Cahill, his children Peggy Moore and Kerrin Cahill (Cayleen), and his cherished grandchildren-Finn, Eamon, Shane, and Liam-who lovingly called him "Pop." Jimmy is also survived by his siblings Eileen Strack (the late Harold), Peggy Murtha (Billy), Franny Callan (Barbara), Charlie Callan (Pat) , Bridget Daly (Rob "Spaz"), and Colleen Moderski (John), He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, MaryAnn (he late James "Jingles" Moore III). His memory will live on through numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, including the Smith and Evans families, and especially Joey Evans.

Jimmy's legacy of love, laughter, and advocacy will never be forgotten.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation and Funeral, Tuesday, December 23, 2025 after 8 AM until 10:30 AM from the Rogers Funeral Home, Inc., 1426-30 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1404 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147.
