It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Richard Moore ("Jim"), who departed this life peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 73. With how easily he lit up the room, the world is a little less bright today. Jim was born on November 13, 1952 in
Shreveport, Louisiana, to Weldon and Patsy Moore.
He graduated from Atlanta High School in Atlanta, TX in 1970. In 1974, Jim graduated from East Texas A&M University (then ETSU) with a degree in political science and general business. He became a Justice on the University Student Supreme Court. Jim earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1977 and was President of his second year class.
Following his passing of the bar that same year, Jim started out in the District Attorneys office under Odis Hill, before eventually switching his practice to criminal defense, probate and family law. Jim practiced law in the
Longview, TX area for over 20 years, even getting multiple awards for his pro bono work. In his later years, he enjoyed working for Exigo in Dallas, Texas and Kansas Capital Group, Inc. in
Olathe, KS. Jim loved all of the jobs he held over the years, and could immediately connect with anyone, taking great satisfaction in the camaraderie amongst co-workers.
Jim often reminisced about how much fun and laughter occurred while skiing, scuba diving, and traveling all over the world with his best friends and law school classmates, Randy and Donna Robason, of Dallas, Texas. Jim is survived by his two sons, Derek (41, of Gilmer, Texas) and Connor (35, of Dallas, Texas) and Derek's wife, Lacy. He was a proud grandfather of Derek's children, Noah and Audrey. Jim's eyes would light up when talking about his sons and grandchildren.
Jim could turn you from being a stranger to a close friend in a matter of minutes. He loved studying history, was a book worm and a huge movie buff. He fancied a good anime show and if you talked to him for even a short time, he would probably mention the music group, Black Pink.
Jim's kindness, loyalty, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends will never be forgotten.
Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of
