JAMES HENRY MORELAND James Henry Moreland, age 91, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior in the presence of his loving family on October 15, 2025, at Homestead Memory Care in Olathe, KS. The family is comforted by their belief that upon passing, he opened his eyes knowing exactly where he was and who he was with all the life, strength, joy, and peace coming back into his spirit as he stepped through Heaven's gates. Jim was born on May 8, 1934, to Clifford and Mae (Goodwin) Moreland in Rose Hill, KS. He grew up in El Dorado, KS, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1952. On April 12, 1954, he married the love of his life, Shirley Satterthwaite. The two shared 71 years of togetherness in a marriage blessed by love and commitment, simple beginnings and clear priorities, times of plenty and times of want, hometown familiarity, a small family that grew into a larger family, and a constant commitment to one another. Jim worked in the refinery industry for over 35 years, working for Fina, Pester, and Mobil in El Dorado and Augusta. Later in life, he worked for his friend, Lowell Redfern, at the Bicycle Shop and worked as a handyman at the Summit House. His children and grandchildren remember the calculator, No. 2 pencil, and reading glasses that were always positioned on his desk for use in paying the bills. His system was simple, honest, and effective. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist church for over 60 years. Jim was an avid sports fan for all of his life. He enjoyed watching all sports, but baseball was his passion, having played the game as a boy growing up, followed by years of fast-pitch softball on competitive men's teams. His love of baseball led him to umpiring high school and American Legion games for over 30 years. Many sons of El Dorado have shared their stories of playing in front of "Mr. Jim" behind the plate. His years of commitment and dedication to El Dorado baseball resulted in his induction into the El Dorado Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. Jim will be greatly missed by the family he leaves behind: his wife Shirley, son Randy (Bridget) Moreland, daughter Tanis (John) Warren, daughter Deneil (Jeff) Myers, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his brother Dennis (Sondy) Moreland. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Kathleen Moreland. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on November 1st at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado, KS, followed by interment at Walnut Valley Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the El Dorado Baseball Hall of Fame or Elevate Hospice in Overland Park, KS.
