James L. Morrison Sr., a mentor to all, fisherman to many and a friend to everyone he met, died Aug. 29, 2021, from cancer at his home in Scranton, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was 77.
Born Oct. 12, 1943, in Charlotte, North Carolina to Lee and Mabel (Campbell) Morrison. Prior to his retirement, James was working as a doorman at Prospect Towers for 15+ years. Whatever he put his hands to, he did excellently. He won many bowling trophies; he was an avid fisherman; he played on the employee baseball team and he also was a Mets fan. As a devoted Christian his faith helped him raise his family. He was a member of Green Ridge Assembly of God in Scranton.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife, Mary Louise Morrison; and his children, Laurel A. Morrison Barrett and husband, Frank, of Scranton; Donna L. Robinson and husband, Edward, of Stewartsville, N.J.; Robert L. Morrison and wife, Pam, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Vionecia Hobson, of Scranton; James L. Morrison Jr. and wife, Karen, of Scranton; and Roberta L. Onyango and husband, Harris, of Montclair, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Morales and Alma Griffin.
He was preceded in death by his five brothers.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for its loving care and Lisa Kramer and Melissa Smith for their tender service.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Green Ridge Assembly of God, 825 Green Ridge St., Scranton, Pa., with Pastor David Twiss as officiating clergy.
Friends will be received Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to his wife, Mary L. Morrison, 1022 Monroe Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
