James Patrick Murray III, age 90, of
Georgetown, TX returned home to our Heavenly Father on June 5th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family and adored nurse. A proud Navy veteran, devoted husband, cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, James lived a life marked by service, love, and dedication.
James was born on November 25th, 1933 to loving parents James and Jeanette Murray in
Santa Fe, NM. He was the second oldest of four children. In 1952, James enlisted into the United States Navy. He served in the Korean War with honor and distinction, embodying the values of courage, commitment, and resilience. His stories of naval adventures and comradeship inspired many and will remain a treasured part of his legacy.
After his honorable discharge, James transitioned to civilian life where he became an electrician and was a proud member of the IBEW Union Local 357 for over 60 years. Highlights from his career included wiring some of the most iconic hotel and casinos in Las Vegas, NV and working at Area 51, where he met his sweetheart and love of his life, Edith Simmons. They were married on September 18th, 1964 in Las Vegas, NV and later sealed for all eternity in the LDS temple in St. George, UT. Being married for nearly 60 years, James and Edith built a loving home filled with laughter, warmth, and countless memories. Family was everything to James and he loved his wife and children unconditionally. His greatest joy was taking them on many fun adventures from road trips in the chinook RV to flying Ultralight aircrafts on the dry lake beds.
As a grandfather and great-grandfather, James found immense joy in his expanding family. He often took his grandchildren on exciting outings which included swimming at the YMCA, enjoying Vegas buffets, and beloved 7-11 stops all while riding in his convertible or RV. He was a pillar of strength and a source of endless wisdom for his 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His stories, hugs, and gentle guidance will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
