James J. Nelson

James J. Nelson, 85, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
James was the beloved son of the late George Nelson and Marie (née Cahill) of Southwest Philadelphia. Growing up, he was a devoted member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church. He graduated from West Catholic High School and went on to attend St. Joseph's University before choosing to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.
Following his service, James became a dedicated member of the local Glaziers Union, where his strong work ethic and leadership earned him the role of Shop Steward until his retirement.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Barbara (née Nolan), and later was a devoted husband to Jane (née Gillin) until her passing.
James was a loving stepfather to Jenni Goane and Paul Carroll, and a cherished father-in-law to Gavin Goane. He was a proud grandfather to Blake, Grayson, and Liam.
He is also survived by his sister Ronnie Lawler, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brothers George and Bob, and his sister Carol.
During retirement, he went on plenty of fishing trips with friends and enjoyed golfing. He also loved traveling with his wife Jane-from Carolina Beach to Europe-making cherished memories with family and friends along the way.
James will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and quiet sense of humor. His devotion to family and his faith left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
