James Neville, beloved father, grandfather, Navy veteran, and loyal friend to many,
passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025.
Born in Detroit on December 8, 1946, he lived a life grounded in devotion, integrity,
and a genuine appreciation for the people around him.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, James held a lifelong admiration for the
Midshipmen of the Naval Academy. He treasured the spirit and tradition of Navy
football and rarely missed a Michigan football game or a Sunday afternoon spent
watching golf.
James's true gift was the way he connected with people. His outgoing spirit made
him instantly memorable, but he'll be remembered most for his loyalty as a friend.
He had a rare ability to make others feel seen, valued, and understood. Whether
through a heartfelt conversation, a shared laugh, or simply showing up when he was
needed, James nurtured friendships that lasted a lifetime. For him, friendship was
not casual-it was a sacred commitment. If he called you a friend, you had someone
in your corner forever.
Above all else, James took immense pride in his family. He was the devoted father of
James (married to Elizabeth) and Jeffrey (married to Hannah). Though distance kept
him from being present with his grandchildren-Alex, Drew, Autumn, and Pip-he
held deep affection for them and celebrated their lives in his heart.
He is also survived by his sister, Nancy, and her husband, Jeff Wheatley, along with
their children, Robert and Amber.
James leaves behind a legacy defined by love, loyalty, warmth, and the countless
lives he touched simply by being himself. He will be deeply missed by his family,
friends, and all who were fortunate to know him.
A Celebration of Life for James will be held at Mama Mia's Restaurant, 27770 Plymouth Rd, Livonia, MI 48150, on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm. A presentation of Military honors will begin at 12:00 pm at Mama Mia's.
May his memory live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and may his spirit
continue to inspire the bonds we build with one another.
