It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of James Richard Odom, of Plainview, Texas, on February 15, 2026, at the age of 90 (just shy of 91).

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Born in Crosbyton, Texas, in 1935 to James (Dutch) Alpheus Odom and Frances Estell Pounds, James lived a life defined by hard work, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. At 8 years old, James planted and harvested crops from the family farm by himself due to his father’s illness.

James proudly served his country in the Army Reserve VIII United States Army Corps as a SP4, instilling in him a lifelong sense of discipline, honor, and commitment. At just 17, he began his career as a mechanic at Cooper Pontiac Cadillac, where his natural talent for problem-solving and craftsmanship quickly became evident. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to cofound Freedom Dodge and T&J Auto, where he built a respected legacy in the automotive industry before retiring at the age of 70.

A man of many passions, James had an unmatched zest for life. He loved building hot rods, racing dragsters, collecting and exploring, and fishing on quiet Texas afternoons. He also held a pilot’s license and found purpose in restoring commercial buildings and rental properties throughout Plainview—always looking for ways to create, repair, and renew.

Above all, James treasured his faith and family. He married Annette Patricia Cardinal July 7, 1956, in Clovis, New Mexico. His greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, passing down his stories, values, and humor to the generations who loved him dearly.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Alpheus Odom and Frances Estell Pounds; his sister Elnora Frances McAnarney; his beloved daughter, Kim Randolph; and his granddaughter, Amy Glowicki.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 (just shy of 70) years, Annette; his daughters Karla (Tom) Glowicki, Kathi (Randy) Holland, and Konnie (Dan) Schafer; and a large and loving family including grandchildren Matt (Mona) Randolph, Andrea (Mark) Gerig, Parker Randolph, Galvan (Whitney) Schafer, Taylor (Kayla) Randolph, Erin (Brody) Berry, Gracie (Tyler) Duggins, Daniel (Katie) Schafer, Katie (Taylor) Reese, Kassie Schafer, Harlan Schafer, and thirteen great-grandchildren who will carry his legacy forward with pride. Mason and Maxton Randolph, Grae Gerig, Bennett, Ryann, and Jack Taylor Berry, Sawyer, Shepherd, and Stanford Duggins, Bennett and Beau Schafer, and Annaleah and Luke Reese.

James lived with integrity, humor, and a deep love for life’s simple blessings. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
