It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of our beloved father, James (Jim) Owens, who left us on Friday, August 22nd at the age of 72. He was born in Schenectady, New York to the late Hoyt and Lola Owens and moved to Reading, Ohio where he studied engineering at the University of Cincinnati and worked at GE Aviation for nearly 30 years as a jet engine test engineer. He consistently gave back to others and his community by volunteering as a Boy Scout leader, his kids' basketball coach and through his church. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends in his final moments. He was a man of wisdom and faith, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. His passion for spending time outdoors and at the beach, enjoying time with his grandchildren, fixing all sorts of things and his unwavering spirit will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, two children Amber Weinel and James Owens and their spouses Randy Weinel and Yeann Owens. His sister, Lee Campbell and husband Rick, brother in laws David and wife Linda Jean and Mark and Debbie Jackson, Charlie Hughes, sister in law Shell Stone and husband Bruce, nieces Maranda Hughes, Tina Bradley, Dana Hutchinson, Carrie Jackson, Heather Harden, Karena and Emme Stone and nephews Tom Jackson, Jeff Jackson, and Keith Campbell, his grandchildren Ava, Brody, Billy Weinel and soon to arrive grandson to be named Owens who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. He is preceded by his parents Hoyt and Lola Owens, sister Patsy Owens and husband George Manooses, sister Peggy Hughes, and niece Lauren Campbell.
At his request and in absence of a funeral, donations can be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society at https://www.lls.org. We will be having a celebration of life later this fall when the family can travel to Ohio. We will share more details at that time.
